Scrub Data inspecting a photo: privacy risk score, metadata summary and the location the photo was taken

Your photos are processed on your device.

Metadata is read and rewritten locally. There is nothing to opt out of, because there is nothing collected.

No network

Scrub has no networking code. It cannot upload a photo, because it has nowhere to send one.

No account

Nothing to sign in to, no analytics, no advertising identifier, no crash reports.

No overwriting

Your original file is never modified. Scrub writes a separate, clean copy.

Six steps

From a photo you can't read to a file you can send.

01Photo

Choose a photo from your library or take a new one. Scrub asks for access to that photo only.

02Inspect

Every EXIF, GPS, TIFF and XMP field is read and listed with the value it would expose.

03Understand

Fields are grouped by what they reveal, each group explained in a sentence and placed on a map where a location is recorded.

04Scrub

Remove everything the format allows, or keep only the fields the photo needs to display correctly.

05Verify

A before and after count of every field, so you can confirm the new file is clean.

Scrub after a scrub: 0/100 low risk, no privacy risks found, ready to save or share
06Share

Send the scrubbed copy anywhere. The original stays exactly as it was.

Inspect

Every field a photo carries, including the ones Photos never shows you.

Scrub reads EXIF, GPS, TIFF and XMP blocks and reports what it finds, field by field, with the value it would expose. A risk score summarises the file at a glance; the list underneath is the evidence for it.

EXIF
Capture date and time, exposure, lens, software version
GPS
Coordinates, altitude, bearing, speed, GPS timestamp
TIFF
Camera make, model, orientation, resolution
XMP
Creator fields, editing history, embedded location
The privacy risk sheet, listing GPS, camera and capture fields with their values
A photo's metadata summary with a privacy risk score and the map location it records
Understand

A coordinate is not information. A neighbourhood is.

Fields are grouped by what they give away — where you were, which device you used, when you pressed the shutter — and each group is explained in a sentence. The recorded location is placed on a map, so you can see the exposure rather than read it.

Location
Where the photo was taken, to within a few metres
Device
The phone, lens and software that took it
Capture
The date and time, down to the minute
Scrub · Verify · Share

Two modes, a written receipt, and your original left alone.

Remove every field the format allows, or keep the two the photo needs to display correctly. Either way Scrub writes a new file and reports the before and after count, so sharing is the only step left.

Remove all data

Strips every field the format allows, including orientation and colour profile.

Privacy essentials

Removes location, device and timing. Keeps the two display fields a photo needs.

Batch privacy report listing 98 sensitive items across location, device and capture, with a note on the structural data Scrub preserves
Share Your Impact

Show what you protected, without showing your photos.

Privacy habits shouldn't be invisible. Scrub turns your on-device stats into a clean, ready-to-share impact card for Instagram Stories, messages or any feed.

Cards show only aggregate counts: photos protected, privacy signals reduced, and a breakdown by category. None of your photo pixels, file names or coordinates are ever on the card.

Story (9:16)34pt safe margins tuned to clear Instagram's top chrome and bottom reply field without clipping.
Square (1:1)Balanced 34pt margins built for grid posts, feed shares and message previews.
Scrub's Share Your Impact card in Story format: 104 photos protected and 1,526 privacy signals reduced, broken down by location, device and capture
The same Share Your Impact card in Square format, sized for feed posts and grid shares
Scrub's lifetime privacy dashboard: 1,526 privacy signals reduced, 104 photos protected, and a seven-day activity chart
Scorecard

Every stripped tag, accounted for.

Scrub turns privacy into an accountable habit. A permanent dashboard on the home screen tracks your cumulative protection across your library:

Privacy Signals
The running total of individual GPS pins, device details and capture timestamps removed from your library, broken down by category.
Photos Protected
Every photo verified clean, with a count of this week’s activity alongside the lifetime total.
Weekly Activity
A seven-day chart of your cleaning activity and a log of past batches, stored entirely on your phone.

A camera roll is a pattern, not a photo.

Select up to thirty photos and Scrub reports them together: which categories appear, which files carry the most, and which ones sit close enough to each other to describe a routine. Then it cleans them in one pass.

Specification

What Scrub reads, and what it leaves behind.

Formats
HEIC, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, Apple ProRAW (DNG)
Metadata read
EXIF, GPS, TIFF tags, XMP packets, PNG text chunks
Removed
Coordinates, altitude, bearing, speed, GPS timestamp, camera make and model, lens, software, capture date, XMP location and creator fields
Apple ProRAW (DNG)
Full sensor and GPS metadata stripped; exported as a full-resolution HEIC copy, since iOS does not allow re-encoding raw sensor data back to DNG
Kept by default
Orientation and colour profile, so the photo still displays correctly
Batch engine
Bounded concurrent background workers with memory-pressure safeguards, so a large batch can’t stall the app
Output
A new file saved alongside the original, at the original resolution
